This is why babies shouldn't dress themselves...

Evie thinks everything is a hat or a necklace!

But she is cute wearing a real necklace:

Nappin' Evie

Evie had her first slumber party with Nana and Grandpa on friday and she did really good for them. On Saturday she took a 45 minute nap in the morning and then she slept for just under 3 hours in the afternoon and still managed to sleep all night. Here she is Friday afternoon with her pigtails and a huge grin (notice you can see both toofs in the picture as well:
After getting sleeping beauty to wake up we went to Raisin Rack, one of two places (the other is Whole Foods) that carries Vegan cheese that is dairy-free. There is a lot of 'lactose-free' cheese and products out there that have milk in them so we have to go with the vegan stuff. We then went to Jack Fay's 3rd birthday party and played and charmed everyone there until gift time, when Evie proceeded to steal Jack's new clothes and toys. Here is the little thief:
Sunday she took another 45 minute nap in the morning and a 3 hour nap in the afternoon so no idea what is up with that but I got a lot done while she slept! We also went to Big Boy for lunch and the park and on a walk around our neighborhood because it was so nice out.

This weekend also marked Evie's first time getting her own kid's meals at a restaurant--she ate the entire thing PLUS some of Nana's food Friday night and did a decent job with her lunch on Sunday. She also said something that sounded a lot like pizza at Jack's party (that was the dinner we had there so I think she was really saying pizza like everyone else was).

Otherwise, Max and I went to Dayton to see Chess on Friday. We had dinner beforehand with Irene, Jeremy and Alaina and it was nice to hang with them in Tipp City:) The show was decent, but it was community theater and so some parts were better than others. The only really bad part was the trumpet player. I think the poor girl only hit 2-3 correct notes the entire night! No idea how much experience she had but it sounded like NONE! As a former music major on a brass instrument it was really appalling.

Max has the uber-sick so he is really struggling to hang in there while I try not to get it again!

Nana's Birthday

Evie sported a new look for Nana's birthday: two pigtails (one is a little fallen over here but still adorable)!
Here she is with Nana--Happy Birthday Nana! I love you!

Cute!

At daycare on Friday, they did Evie's hair in an up-do...which we repeated Saturday!

Evie is Sick:(

Evie has her first real yucky nasty illness (more than a bad cold and cough). She has her first ever ear infection which has also turned in to pink eye. I noticed her eye was all crusty and gross yesterday when she woke up but she wasn't running a fever and her eye was not red...so she went to school and I panicked and called the doctor and took her in. Good thing I did!

Her left ear is infected which caused her to get pink eye in her right eye (a little all over the place but oh well). She is on antibiotic and we caught everything really early so she should be good. She was so cute for the doctor and then I brought her to work for a few minutes to show her off and she charmed everyone here too. She was in her pout/quiet mode and looked adorable.

She weighed in at exactly 20 pounds (with clothes and shoes on) and is 29 inches long!

A Trip To The Park

So in case you're out of the area, or were somehow living in a cave, it was beautiful in Columbus today. A high in the low 70s on March 13th is NOT to be denied. So, we loaded up the Buggy and headed out to the park. After all, she loves the swing and running around, we love her having fun, the weather's great - win-win, right?

Things started out pretty well. We had to start out with the requisite baby-in-sunglasses shots. She wasn't sure about all that. Well... actually she'd remove them within seconds if we weren't holding her back, so note the restraint techniques in use here:

She did love carrying them around though - and would even keep holding them up on top of her head like she wanted to put them back on - but if you did, OFF they'd come! She wasn't sure about the mulch at first, but after awhile she started tottering around in it.

The baby swings were full when we first got there, so we killed time letting her wander a tad (she wasn't really into all that today though), and we gave the slide another shot - still completely not a fan of that. We did get to the swings, but Evie was NOT into them today. Like really bummed-out looking and uninterested, progressing slowly to full-on mad baby.

Which was a bummer, since she's loved it before, even as recently as this past weekend...

After the second run at the swings, Evie was in no mood for further attempts at fun... Here's Mommy joining in for the grumpy-face solidarity:

So we headed back home... not sure why the swing was a miss this time, but hopefully she'll like it again on the next try. The weather's too awesome to NOT get outside and enjoy it.

Pictures!

Evie now has 2 teeth and is over 11 months old which is just crazy. She has officially been alive (outside of mommy) for every single one of the 12 months in a year! Here are some recent pictures:
Evie and Glenn (above)
Evie cooks! Evie and Jack! Evie's first homemade dairy-free cookie eaten while holding Pasquale's squirt gun (below)!
Evie does the dishes (is that a psycho butter knife?)!

First Pairs of Shoes

Evie got her first shoes this past weekend from Stride Rite. Since she has a super chubby foot I wanted to make sure we got her fitted for the first time by someone who does this for a living. She has a pair of brown leather mary jane's with flowers on them and some white bootie/sneakers which have 3 very discreet little flowers on them as well so between the 2 pairs she can wear them with everything she owns, including her red Valentine's Day track suit. At first she was either paralyzed or very 'frankenstein-esque' in her booties but this morning I had her practice walking in them and now she is a pro!

She has also been crazy interested in the kitchen and playing around in there. Daddy took some cute pictures of her yesterday and we'll have to post those and a few shoe pictures soon. The shoe video would be fun too if she hadn't been in paralyzed by shoe phase when we tried to take it!

Last week was really busy for Buggies. She had a playdate with Glenn and at his house, then we all went to the Fishes for game night on Saturday (after going shoe shopping) AND she had her last swim lesson. She did pretty good with everything but refused to nap Sunday after swim lessons and was really crabby.

She appears to be breaking in a second tooth next to her first one and has been in really good spirits in spite of that! I feel terrible because I have been really sick all week and not able to enjoy her as much:(. Monday I started feeling yucky at work so took it easy when I got home and went to bed early, then Tuesday woke up feeling awful. I dropped Evie off at daycare and then came in to work since I was up and figured I might feel better but I just got worse--made it about 2.5 hours then went home and took a nap before going to the doctor. Here's where life gets really fun:
  • the doctor did some blood work and set me up to get a CT scan the next day to check for a sinus infection. Because I just stopped taking an antibiotic to get rid of the stupid infection I got from taking another antibiotic they can't just put me on any old thing and hope it works (oh plus I was originally on a different antibiotic that I had a nasty allergic reaction to two weeks ago so this is like antibiotic nightmare for me)
  • yesterday, my doctor called and said my CT scan was normal (no sinus infection) but my blood work was not--my white blood cell count was about 2x normal. So I went back in to have blood drawn again after work yesterday and they ran some other quick tests to see what was causing my infection. I also had to drop by this morning for more tests before coming in to work.
  • I just got a call saying my white blood count came back high but much closer to normal. So now I have to go back in a week and do this all over again, plus probably won't hear back from the tests from today until next week.
Meanwhile, I feel like crap. I am super congested and a little out of it and I really don't think I can miss work since I started this job less than 2 months ago and I already took time off to take Evie to the allergist and an entire day off to get the stupid test done so I could find out I probably have Crohns. This has not been a healthy start to the year for me! Daddy can hardly believe how I got hit with the sick stick all at once, and I find it pretty incredible myself.

Meanwhile, Evie is healthy as ever. She gives germs to others but is impervious to them herself!

Documented Evidence

Finally, a picture of the elusive tooth! It's easy enough to see just playing with her and while she's eating (though spotting top ones will be significantly harder), but nigh-impossible to photograph.

I did manage to snap a couple. The one above is more of a close-up, making it a bit easier to spot. It's not a particularly great picture of Evie though. The one below is better, but you'll have to zoom-in to see the tooth.
